Greninja and Delphox easily perform very well against Venusaur's weaknesses, and with access to moves that even Venusaur can't learn, the compatibility between them is simply unstoppable. Bulbasaur just happens to be elevated above them by a certain je ne sais quois. To create a Bulbasaur you combine everything that makes life worth living: the cuddliness of a real good pup; the smile of a spouse on your wedding day; the eyes of a newborn seeing its parents for the very first time; the soul of the best friend who speaks at your retirement party, honoring you with memories even you had forgotten.

I concede neither Bulbausaur nor its evolutions fare as well in the final gyms. Bulbasaur is great to help ease new players into the game, as Bulbasaur evolves more quickly and is one of the easiest Pokemon to care for.

Despite being often overshadowed by other Pokemon like Charmander, Bulbasaur remains one of the most highly underrated Pokemon out there. Bulbasaur kicks butt in the gyms, it can do serious damage against water and rock-types, and it is the best Pokemon out there to teach new players about the amazing world of Pokemon.
