It's how, despite the fact that Louis Tomlinson is 5'8", he always looks just about as tall as his much taller 1D band mates Harry Styles, who's 5'11"; Liam Payne, who's 5'10"; and formerly Zayn Malik, who's 5'9". FYI: Niall is the same height as Louis at 5'8". One 1D fan on Tumblr thinks she's figured this major conundrum and it's not that Louis isn't growing three inches every time he has to walk a red carpet. He's simply found a super clever way to appear just as tall as his band mates.

Her theory: Louis simply lines his heels up with the toes of whoever's standing next to him so that he's a few inches in front of them.
